Spring Updates: Laser Therapy, Easter Pet Safety, and Exciting News!

Hi,

We hope you’re enjoying the first signs of spring! 🌷

🥳 March has seen CS Hydro-physio’s Theale clinic reopen! 🥳  Thank you again for all your patience and support during this challenging period.

In this month’s newsletter, we are excited to delve deeper into Class IV Laser therapy, which is indeed an intriguing topic, offering a non-invasive treatment option for various conditions.

Whilst some of our clients may already be familiar with, or have already received laser treatment, others may not have encountered it yet. We hope that the following information gives you some insight into how it works and the benefits laser can bring.

Also, keep reading for exciting news! 📰

Shedding Light on Laser Therapy

Laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation therapy, can play a significant role in canine rehabilitation, complementing hydrotherapy and physiotherapy. This non-invasive treatment involves applying a specific dosage of light energy onto a selected tissue, such as a joint or muscle. This light energy increases blood circulation, reduces inflammation, alleviates pain, and accelerates the healing process.

But How Does It Work?

When a sufficient dose of light energy reaches the target tissue, it triggers a cellular response, increasing ATP (energy) production, thus accelerating healing. This, in turn, causes the release of various chemicals that increase blood flow, remove waste products, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain.

Our Treatment Triad

By integrating laser therapy with hydrotherapy and physiotherapy as needed, we ensure the highest standard of treatment for your dog…

Imagine you’re dealing with a knee injury and are determined to strengthen the supporting muscles at the gym. Despite your dedication, ongoing pain and poor joint mobility limits muscle building. However, by integrating laser therapy and physiotherapy into your regimen to reduce pain and enhance mobility, you can achieve effective muscle building, free from discomfort. This supports the joint, accelerates the speed of recovery and reduces the risk of re-injury. It’s the same for your dog!

What About The Evidence?

The strength of evidence supporting laser therapy is impressive. Laser therapy has been extensively studied and proven beneficial in reducing pain and inflammation associated with various conditions in both humans and animals.

What Sort Of Conditions Can Laser Help With?

Laser therapy is versatile and can be used to aid a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Post-Surgical Recovery
  • Joint Pain, Dysplasia & Arthritis
  • Muscle Pain, Tears & Strains
  • Open Wounds
  • Fractures & Breaks
  • Tendon & Ligament Injury’s
  • Nerve Pain & Damage / Dog With Paralysis
  • Ear Infections
  • And More!

If your dog is currently receiving regular treatment with us and could benefit from laser therapy, chances are we’ve already included it as part of your dog’s treatment plan. However, if it’s been a while since your last visit, or if you’ve observed any recent changes in your dog’s comfort, it may be beneficial to have a conversation to explore the potential benefits of laser therapy for your dog.

Murphy's Journey: Celebrating Milestones and Memories

Murphy began his CS Hydro-physio journey in September 2016 after undergoing surgery for a luxating patella, resulting in a 6cm difference in muscle mass between his hind limbs. We are pleased to report that Murphy achieved a full recovery and continued visiting his CS Hydro “aunties” once a month to sustain muscle mass and tone.

Througout the years, we have supported Murphy (and his mummy & daddy, of course) through various scenarios, including a cruciate ligament injury in 2020 and bicep tendonitis in October 2023. It was during this time that Murphy began receiving Class IV Laser treatment.

As Murphy has matured over the years, his loving owners have adapted to his needs while ensuring he maintains a healthy level of exercise.

In June 2024, Murphy will be turning 15, and while we’ve noticed some cognitive changes, we’ve approached them with care and sensitivity. Despite this, Murphy hasn’t lost his sassy or mischievous charm.

We love you, Murphy, and you continue to inspire us all ❤️

Easter Pet Safety: Protecting Your Furry Friend

With Easter just around the corner, it’s crucial to remain mindful of certain treats that pose dangers to our dogs…

One of the most common hazards during Easter is chocolate. While a sweet indulgence for us, chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are toxic to dogs. Depending on the type and amount consumed, chocolate ingestion can lead to symptoms ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to seizures and can even prove fatal.

Dried fruits, particularly raisins, pose a significant threat to dogs. Raisins, commonly found in hot cross buns and other Easter treats, can cause kidney failure in dogs. Even small amounts can be toxic, so it’s crucial to keep these treats out of your dog’s reach.

If your dog consumes chocolate or raisins, it’s important not to panic. Instead, contact your veterinarian over the phone immediately. They can assess the situation and provide guidance on the necessary steps to take. Remember, early intervention is key in minimizing the risk to your dog’s health.

If you have any concerns or require further information, don’t hesitate to reach out.
